Pump bearings
Pump bearings are used to support the pump shaft, withstanding combined radial and axial loads. They are designed for high-speed continuous operation in environments that are often damp and contain high levels of water vapour, placing high demands on sealing, temperature rise and resistance to water vapour ingress.
Common types
1. Deep groove ball bearings (6200/6300 series)
These are the most commonly used bearings in small and medium-sized clean water pumps, circulation pumps and agricultural pumps available on the market. The 2RS rubber seal is the preferred option, whilst the C3 clearance accommodates thermal expansion during operation. Primarily designed for radial loads, they can withstand a small amount of bidirectional axial load, offering high rotational speeds, low noise levels and excellent value for money.
Common models: 6204‑2RS, 6205‑2RS, 6305‑2RS, 6306‑2RS.
2. Double-row angular contact ball bearings (3200 series)
These bearings simultaneously withstand radial and bidirectional axial loads. They offer high rigidity and resistance to hydraulic shock from the pump housing. They are commonly used in centrifugal pumps, industrial pumps and multistage pumps. C3 clearance is the preferred choice, making them suitable for applications with relatively high axial forces.
3. Automotive Water Pump Shaft-Mounted Bearings
Featuring an integrated shaft-mounted design with a double-row rolling element arrangement and no separate inner ring, these bearings incorporate a multi-lip seal. They are specifically designed for automotive engine water pumps, offering resistance to water vapour and a long, maintenance-free service life.
4. Self-aligning Roller Bearings
Used in heavy-duty large water pumps, slurry pumps and mine dewatering pumps, these bearings are impact-resistant and capable of compensating for shaft deflection and misalignment. They are suitable for high-flow, heavy-duty pumping equipment.
Performance Features
- Seals: 2RS double-sided adhesive seals are the preferred choice, blocking the ingress of water vapour and dust whilst preventing grease loss;
- Water pumps generally utilise C3 large clearance to counteract thermal expansion caused by high-speed operation;
- Specialised water-resistant, long-life grease is used to reduce moisture corrosion and minimise rust;
- Precision grades include P0 and P6, ensuring minimal temperature rise during operation and low noise levels.
